Lead and Healthy Homes

While lead paint was banned in 1978, much of South Jersey's housing stock had already been built. The existing lead hazards present serious potential dangers to families living in the area. Lead and Healthy Homes offers providers a variety of resources to help educate their patients on the dangers lead and other hazards pose.

In addition to the resources below, Lead and Healthy Homes staff are active in the community. They conduct free workshops and presentations for regional health care providers, businesses and community groups.

If you are interesting in bringing Lead and Healthy Homes to your facility or office, contact Cathy Butler at cbutler@snjpc.org.

Patient Resources

  • This handy pocket guide explains the Blood Lead Level test results and the recommended next steps. Providers can order free copies for distribution to patients or direct them to the downloadable version. The guide also includes information on mitigating lead exposure and lead safe practices.

  • Lead and Healthy Homes provides free, DIY testing kits to New Jersey residents to help them determine the level of lead dust contamination in their homes. These do-it-yourself tests come complete with all items needed to collect samples and submit to the lab for analysis. Results are provided directly to homeowner along with resources on mitigating exposure risk.

  • A concise and informative overview on childhood lead poisoning, this downloadable PowerPoint presentation provides a brief rundown of lead dangers, sources, symptoms and tips to reduce associated risks.

  • The Lead and Healthy Homes Action Sheets (available in English and Spanish) outline step-by-step instructions and easy checklist tips to safeguard homes from mold and mildew, pests, accidental injuries and more.

  • The Lead and Healthy Homes Training Guides (available in English and Spanish) contain valuable information about protecting homes from lead contamination, pests, mold and safety hazards.
